Kageno Harambee 2010

Harambee is an East African tradition of community self- help events. Harambee literally means “pulling together” in Swahili. These events have long been important in parts of East African culture as a way to build and maintain communities.

On November 1st 2010, Kageno hosted their 7th annual Harambee event. Below are photos from the event.

JUNE SUMMER COCKTAILS EVENT

On June 22, Danielle Levine hosted a Summer Cocktails event to raise awareness and funds for Kageno's nursery school in Rwanda. The event was held at the Max Lang Gallery in New York City and featured photographs taken in Africa, a sponsorship table and a village market. More than 200 people came out to support the event and it raised more that $35,000. Thank you all for coming out and supporting this great project!

A Day of Wellness in Support of Africa
A Day of Wellness in Support of Africa

On Sunday April 11, Urban Zen foundation hosted A Day of Wellness in support of Africa to raise funds and awareness for Kageno's health programs. The day included individual yoga therapy sessions, Reiki, massage treatments, a meditation session led by Eddie Stern and a discussion of the CLEAN detox program by Dr. Alejandro Junger. Funds raised from the day went to support our ongoing health programs in Kenya and Rwanda.

On Monday October 26, Kageno celebrated its sixth year of innovative community development with The Kageno Harambee Gala benefiting the organization’s Kenya and Rwanda programs. This year’s event was held at the Hudson Terrace in New York City.

The evening included a cocktail reception, an auction, dinner and entertainment. Xan Serafin of Christie’s, was our auctioneer for the evening. There was both a live and silent component with donations of art, photography, jewelry, trips and other unique and interesting items.

Funds raised from the evening went to support our ongoing programs in Kenya and Rwanda turning these great communities into a place of opportunity and hope.

On Monday November 3rd, Kageno celebrated five years of innovative community development with The Kageno Harambee Gala benefiting the organization’s Kenya and Rwanda programs. This year’s event was be hosted by Donna Karan and took take place at the Stephan Weiss Studio in New York City.

The evening included a cocktail reception, an auction, dinner and entertainment. Xan Serafin of Christie’s, was our auctioneer for the evening. There was both a live and silent component with donations of art, photography, jewelry, trips and other unique and interesting items.

Funds raised from the evening went to support our ongoing programs in Kenya as well as afford us the resources to begin the second phase of construction that will transform the Kageno village in Banda, Rwanda into a place of opportunity and hope.
