At the home of Lillian Vernon and Paolo Martino
minimum donation $250.00 .
All funds raised will help Kageno fund the building of an ecotourism lodge for Banda, Rwanda (total funding $155,000).
Background: Banda Village is a small, remote village on the periphery of the Nyungwe Forest in southwest Rwanda. The area contains one of the highest population densities in Rwanda, with approximately 500 people per square kilometer. Until Kageno began its work here, the community, with no employable skills, no land to farm and subsequently no income earning opportunities were prone to a myriad of problems related to extreme poverty and Rwanda’s legacy of war and genocide.
Since 2007, Kageno has: constructed a health center and pharmacy for Banda Village and the neighboring communities; constructed a Clean Water Project that brings clean drinking water to over 5,000 people in Banda Village, and broken ground on the Banda Village Nursery School
The Future: where your help could make a difference:
Building of an ecotourism lodge: The lodge will accommodate visitors to Banda, who will be able to experience the community, enjoy the large number of unique bird species, primates, and flora/fauna in the forest and most importantly employ many of the community members. Your contribution will help us make this a reality.
